Synchrotrons

Synchrotrons are very large facilities, generally the size of a football field, which produce very high intensity X-rays. Using high intensity X-rays allows sample analysis to be performed in seconds rather than hours as would be required for conventional X-ray sources. There are approximately 40 synchrotrons operating around the world.
